I cannot believe the support for Russia coming from the right. If Moscow was still 'USSR' and trying to spread communism, I bet the tone would be different. But now we have a strongman dictator, ex-KGB, and an idol of Trump, so they think it is OK to expand their empire.

Ronald Reagan befriended Mikhail Gorbachev after calling the USSR the "Evil Empire," and telling Gorby to "Tear down this [Berlin] wall!" Reagan won the Cold War thusly. It's OK to talk to your rivals, but be careful who you call your enemy. That has consequences.
