All depends how you look at it. The SM that built and worked the pier received some real time experience verses post beautification or motor pool duties.

It was nowhere near as effective as the Normandy "Mulberries," which withstood hurricane-force winds that July, but I'm with MAJ Byron Oyler in that it was good training for some of our young troopers . . .

MAJ Dale E. Wilson, Ph.D. - DOD as a general rule does a horrible job at convincing both the public and national leaders how beneficial military training is for the country. They keep reducing military medical because on the surface it seems so expensive but every dollar they spent in training me they got back with military service and now that I work as a civilian RN, there is nothing on the civilian side than can prepare me as well. Every day that I go to work for Methodist HCA my community gets a return on the tax payer dollars spent to make me the RN I am today.
