Search and rescue teams in Norway are looking for a missing American MV-22 Osprey aircraft that was taking part in a large NATO military exercise in northern Norway Friday.

The V-22 Osprey has had 12 hull loss accidents that have resulted in a total of 42 fatalities. During testing from 1991 to 2006 there were four crashes resulting in 30 fatalities. The aircraft has a dismal safety and maintenance record, with a mission-capable rate of 60-70 percent. [More current data hasn't been released in the past couple of years, which is troubling].
There are issues with inflow to the engines, and other maintenance challenges which have not helped improve its MCR.
That said, it remains a sought-after component for deployments. But for how long?

SMSgt Anil Heendeniya I Remember in My Day they were referred to as Flying Marine Coffins. I think things have improved some but there are still issues.
