TRICARE Costs Announced: What You Need to Know for 2022

Days before the Nov. 9 start of Open Season, TRICARE announced updated enrollment fees, premiums, and other rates for its plans taking effect in 2022.

Many TRICARE fees are increased annually by the amount of the military retired pay cost-of-living adjustment (COLA). Because COLA for 2022 is higher than it has been for decades (5.9%), the dollar amounts of TRICARE fee increases will also be higher than we have seen in the recent past.

However there were no new TRICARE fees announced for 2022, and the new fees from 2021 – TRICARE Select annual enrollment fees for most Group A retirees and their families – saw increases in line with COLA: from $150 to $158 for individuals and from $300 to $317 for families.

As many here, I've had to go to Tricare for Life which means now have to pay Medicare Part B which is $148 per month. So much for the lie that "if you retire after 20 years or more Military Service we'll take care of your health for the rest of your life.". I guess they are but it was implied it would be free of charge.

Totally agree, but then I look at the medical costs for my employees when I was working; takes the sting off a bit.

Lt Col Charlie Brown I have private insurance through my employer and my part went up substantially this past year. I go to the VA and they bill my insurance so I rarely have to pay but I need the insurance for my wife to be covered.

We had so much trouble with TFL that I got private insurance through my second employer and stayed with them after I retired.
