Logistics is the skeletal support for any modern army PO1 Tony Holland. In WWII, the pipeline for fuel extended to the ports and Mulberry's and across the channel. Later the red ball express would become famous for moving materiel 24/7 and bringing back wounded and dead among other things.
In the breakout from Normandy the politics of international coalitions reared its ugly head. Patton with his armor and mech heavy 3rd Army was pushing as fast ad as far as he could to catch the German's off balance.
His logisticians were submitting requisitions well in advance since they knew Patton's plans and had been working for him for so long.
The prioritization of what to ship and where to ship it was constrained based on political considerations. IMHO Patton 3rd Army was proceeding much quicker that Montgomery's 8th Army which was a problem in terms of exposed flanks, potentially. The British wanted to mount Operation Market Garden to bypass significant German forces. however the landing occurred in the vicinity of significant German ground capability.
LTG George S. Patton was not defeated on the ground per say - he had a harder time in Tunisia than in Sicily or France.

Task Force Baum, whose mission was undertaken on his orders for his private purposes so "only" would not be correct.
