Knocked everyone off their chair. The scariest thing was the first response from Kennedy. No one I knew thought he had it in him and then all were convinced nuclear war was just seconds away.

It's quit interesting how the citizenry didn't learn about our missiles being removed from Turkey until much later. The media had to maintain the Kennedy mystique.
From my readings, I think he was right to throw up the blockade. It sent the message to Kruschev the youngster wasn't to be taken lightly.
