Heck I saw people on MSNBC calling for a ban on ALL semi-automatic weapons as assault weapons. The idiot didnt even know that includes 80% of the handguns sold and even a few models of shotguns.

"The AR-15 cannot fire 700 rounds per minute. Such an action would be a physical impossibility"..... could you imagine how strong that finger and forearm would have to be to pull that off? 700 rounds in a minute?

If the guy had said "cyclical rate of fire" or simply "rate of fire," he'd have been ok with his description. But he didn't say that. He said, "... a weapon that shoots off 700 rounds in a minute..." That's just plain dead wrong.

I am not sure what my rifle rate of fire is, but in a pistol I can get 7 round off a second for about 3 seconds and then I am out. Now it I want to hit anything it slows down to 4/second.

SGT William Howell - Auto fire is not accurate fire from any gun. Machine guns which only has auto fire are not very accurate but that is not the purpose for them. The only purpose for auto fire is to suppress enemy fire or to stop full on assaults to your position.
I fired 30 cals and 60 cals when I was in service and qualified with them. I don't remember exactly the amount of hits you had to have to qualify back years ago then but it was not that many out of a belt of ammo which if I remember correctly was 50 rounds we were using. The most accurate method is to use short bursts in this way you get better accuracy.
If I remember correctly on the M16 in semi auto I could hit the target 95% of the time for which I rated expert. But on three round burst mode I could only hit about 60% and full auto was like 30 or 40%. That is from a laying position and if your standing it is even lower hit rates.
So I do not need, even if I am in a combat situation auto fire. I can put 1 round in a target every 3 to 5 seconds and that is adjusting fire for different targets. That means if I am charged by a group there is going to a few dead and wounded.
I have since been practicing with a 308 and I am not the best but getting there lol.

The listed rate-of-fire for an AR-15 was approximately 800 rounds per minute on full-automatic (if available on the particular AR-15 model). Muzzle velocity was rated at 3,200 feet per second.
They use number rounds per minute when rating. So the following would apply.
The 800 RPM rate which means it can fire 30 rounds in about 2.5 seconds if it had full auto. But semi you might get 30 rounds out in 10 to 20 seconds depending on how fast you could pull the trigger.

1.
make a physical attack on.
"he pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer"
synonyms: attack, hit, strike, punch, beat up, thump; More
noun
1.
a physical attack.
"his imprisonment for an assault on the film director"
synonyms: battery, violence; More
2.
a concerted attempt to do something demanding.
"a winter assault on Mt. Everest"
Assault is an action not a description! It is a scary word used by small minded individuals so that when they try to infringe on our civil liberties, anyone who disagrees is labeled as being pro gun violence. The day that a firearm gets up and without any direction from a person intent on causing harm commits an assault, I will agree that the weapon needs to go. Self aware firearms are not a good idea. Beyond that, a firearm is a tool. It can be used for recreation, obtaining food, self defense, and yes it can be used to make an assault.

PO3 Steven Sherrill - Yeah, so. I think it is awesome that Tannerite is legal to own. There are still locality restrictions, but still. I am not sure what you were trying to say with that list.

PO1 (Join to see) - Fair enough, and I agree Tannerite is so much fun. The point was that there are things out their with less restrictions than a handgun, or rifle that can be acquired. The focus on the tool rather than the perpetrator is what angers me. Had he used Orlando Asshole use a tannerite bomb instead of a gun, the focus would be where it belongs, on the terrorist rather than where it is, using the death of 49 People to push a political agenda.
