Chief, unfortunately I am retired now and have zero influence on operations, and not trying to be presumptuous enough to say I would have had anything to do with the final exfiltration. However, of all the years we have been there and as much as we know about the history of that shit hole nobody gets out unscathed. The final exfiltration should have been planned and executed flawlessly. As far as Mark Milley goes I dont know much about him other than the fact he is a GO. I will say my first impression from interview I saw was not real positive. I need to stop right there for the simple fact the infamous day we lost great Americans trying to exfil I exploded with anger and was overwhelmed with sadness. I have volumes more I could write but do not know if I have the strength mentally or physically to wade off into that trap. So I will end by simply saying I felt/feel we as a Nation left our brothers and sisters in harms way without taking care of them. My emotions bounce back and forth from anger to sadness. I am very happy our uniformed people are out, I hate it took so long to do whatever our original mission was. (mission creep)

Well said; its too bad we can’t have extend dialogue but this isn’t really a place to expand on your excellent points. I’ve got perceptions and experiences similar to yours I believe that coincide with yours but drift into other avenues that would worth the time to converse about. You and i don’t live in academia however. We have and do live in the real world. Again, well said

Oh wait it’s because you probably don’t know who it is and it’s not politically convenient to do so

CENTCOM recieves orders and executes. JCS gives orders and advises POTUS. Tell me how that is wrong? It's even clear in the CENTCOM mission statement.

SPC Erich Guenther JCS has no command authority. It’s an advisory/administrative role only. Orders come down from the President to the SecDef to the combatant commanders. Goldwater-Nichols Act of 1986.

SFC Thomas Foreman - It sure seemed like JCS Colin Powell was issuing a lot of commands direct to General Schwartzkopf during the first Gulf War including for him to lower his profile.

SPC Erich Guenther Powell can tell him to lower his profile. That’s an administrative task. Powell could not legally direct troop movements. Look up the law.
