That works out to be about $2,900 US per service member. Being required to pay this back would be very taxing (no pun intended) economically for 99% of the service members affected. The military is not known for overpaying it's members and then there is the hazards associated with being in such close proximity to an unstable enemy state. If we have billions and billions of dollars to contribute to a proxy war in Eastern Europe, we can cut our own troops a little slack.
