MAJ Dale E. Wilson, Ph.D. Monroe didn't make the list? He is in the painting with Washington crossing the Delaware on Christmas 1776 (he was 18 years old and holding the flag) and went on to command troops at the Battle of Trenton, Monmouth, Brandywine, and Germantown, and serve in Washington's Staff. The thankless job of being part of the staff, I tell ya.

There's a good book about the Chichijima bit by James Bradley (son of the famous Navy Corpsman John Bradley) known as "Flyboys."
