I quickly perused the article. Author omits two important points...
1. Tax rebellion from American Revolution was from colonial status. Citizens are supposed to pay taxes, but colonists are not. Issue was of being required to pay, but not having vote in British parliament.
2. Along with war bonds, paying taxes was considered patriotism. Pasted link below of World War 2 era billboard as reminder of American supporting troops financially as well as politically.
