I understand the political disaster, since the situation was painted (politically) with a wide “rosy brush”, but the psychological disaster only stemmed from the political root. In actuality, consider fighting a war in ANY conflict, with artificially imposed restrictions - one hand tied behind the back - yet still “kicking butt”. We fought admirably - and won with a partial “toolbox” to work with. The “defeatist” attitude resulted from political spin and societal complacency. You shouldn’t hamstring your horses or ration your bullets if you want to win. History proves this.

Well lesson learned- politicians can't "run" the war and never be over optimistic when you haven't really won anything yet. Not such thing as a quick war- still fighting remnants of every things we breezed in and out of 27 years ago.

"At dawn on the first day of the Tet holiday truce, Viet Cong forces–supported by large numbers of North Vietnamese troops–launch the largest and best coordinated offensive of the war..."

Gee, is it possible the enemy negotiated the holiday truce as a tactical advantage??!!

Tactical advantage for sure, If it was quiet all they had to do was have a bombing halt and We would get hit again, 1.5 Hours was about the longest I ever saw us go without and attack following a bombing halt. Seems to politicians never understood bombing halts do not work in our favor, they get American killed. I should know I was one of the people on the receiving end of their ground attacks, rorots and rockets.
