I didn't know that about the NRA until recently. Certainly puts a different point on civil liberties doesn't it?

It does not surprise me at all. A large majority of the NRA membership today are the same people we served in uniform with that has been fighting as brothers and sisters long before any Civil Rights Act. In some ways you can look at how Socialist Germany treated the Jews and how the socialists in the US treat minorities.
