I am wondering how the two women who executed the attack with live VX, in their hands no less, managed to do so without dying too.
They would have been exposed to it longer.

I had the same question. I've read a number of articles, and there's a theory that perhaps the reason for using two people to carry out the attack was because they used a "binary" system where two ingredients were mixed on his face. It is also reported that one of the women did suffer apparent vx poisoning, albeit not fatal.
