Legislation? Really? I agree it is a public health issue but how well the government does with that...

MAJ Dale E. Wilson, Ph.D. In some cases it is done purposely with forethought, to get training in a technical field and then get out. I went through Basic and AIT with a teen from the Boston area. His stated reasoning was to get training and have something to do for that summer. He did not intend on staying in for His initial enlistment. He succeeded in His goal. Basic started in April, He made it through. AIT started in Late June, the fundamental training was equivalent to an associate degree in applied technology, and by Christmas of that year He was again a civilian. I have always been on the "Chunky" side, so I learned to enjoy running. Even with ability to run a complete Marathon I was always "over weight" and got the tape or caliper test. In my opinion, ED is a better option than a Chapter. Put the offenders back under the tender care of some Drill Instructors, doing scut work, once or twice and watch that attitude change. But, then again, I'm all for mandatory service also.
