The Statue of Liberty, which towers 305 feet, six inches over New York Harbor, is one of the most instantly recognizable symbols of America. It has inspired countless souvenir replicas and been referenced in everything from posters for war bonds to the final scene of the 1968 movie “Planet of the Apes,” in which an astronaut who returns to Earth in the distant future discovers it partially buried in sand.

I love Lady Liberty! While we have the largest, she is not alone and the ideals she represents are scattered across the globe. Being French in origin she is of course replicated several times in France.

A beautiful sight welcoming immigrants to our country through Ellis Island, my Grandfather told me many stories of how he escaped from East Germany and came to America, it's to bad that a lot of our society doesn't see the statue the same way I do.
