I had an uncle who kept bees and a friend who keeps them to this day. It's a vocation/avocation that requires intense concentration and no small amount of study if you're going to do it correctly (maintain healthy hives and harvest honey). I suppose it is that same discipline in any other pursuit that helps someone shift their focus from their internal problems to the external world. And "fear" of getting stung helps maintain that discipline

Interesting, Lt Col Charlie Brown. The 1997 movie, Ulee's Gold, is about a Vietnam veteran who is a beekeeper in Florida. Although a professional apiarist, it's clear that beekeeping is indeed a form of therapy for the troubled character played by Fonda.

I'm not a fan of Peter Fonda in the least, but this film was clearly his best work.
