Do we have any regs about what you just did?
No, sir.
Make one.

Ain't that just about a perfect summation of all things military?

That's why you have recruits. To learn new ways of idiocy and make regs against it. Slick sleeves are the backbone of New regulations. And lengthy Safety Briefings.

Great story, I've got something similar but not nearly as exciting.
When I was at Pease AFB in FB-111s we had a pilot proficiency profile that was filed with Boston Center as Nantucket Sleigh Ride. The profile was takeoff from Pease, fly direct to Otis AFB, make several touch and go's, then fly direct to Martha's Vineyard, make several low approaches, then fly direct to Nantucket, make several low approaches, and return to Pease.
Well, one time the tower at Nantucket asked us to hit afterburner on our next approach, which we did. Nantucket being a small island, tower told us that the folks at the beach saw it and loved it when we were making our final low approach. We told tower that we'd give the folks on the beach something else to remember us by. As we were leaving the island we flew along the beach doing a zippo.

Oh, this is a zippo? They probably thought they were seeing your engine on fire kind of like the Concorde on takeoff when it crashed after hitting some metal on the runway.
