There a few aspects that I know of the war:
- The morale of the Soviets were very low.
- Those of you who think changing our ROE in Afghanistan to something more lethal don't understand that the Soviets waged total war to include wiping out villages and killing children but still lost.
- One military problem and I think it is significant is the Soviets used mechanized forces, but these forces need flat terrain to maneuver. The flat terrain is in the valleys and the Taliban occupied the high ground which facilitated their attacks on convoys.
