SGT (Join to see), I joined the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution on 5NOV81. I still have the original lapel rosette! The colors of the rosette represent the colors of the colonial army uniform.

It doesn't really matter when you joined, Maj William W. . Your ancestors have been there all along! I do think it's good to join, even if for no other reason than to chronicle one's ancestry.
Before online ancestry websites, organizations like SAR and DAR were some of the few places to find and house genealogical records.
Neither my son nor my daughter had any interest, but I made sure that I got each of them into SAR and DAR so that they're recorded at each institution.

I'm also a member with at least six patriot ancestors. My 7th GGF was also a Loyalist and things didn't work out too well for him.
