My wife's family up in Minnesota have special engine warmers hooked up so that the fluids to not freeze solid and they are even in a closed garage. Think about 40 below Zero temperature...

new vehicle's on the 49th are ordered with block heaters, most are not needed but still saves on the engine and battery. Mine sit inside but not heated, they start well and usually blowing warm air by the time I hit the end of the driveway. It is usually colder up here than Mn

We dealt wth the same issues growing up in rural WI- I also remember the mandatory cold weather survival classes in school too...brrrr!

In my view, if the vehicle is not garaged, a few minutes warm up is a good idea...

I concur. I read an article that some Lady decided to do that and forgot Her key in the car and came back a couple of minutes later only to find out that Somebody stole Her car.

SGT Ruben Lozada: I always had a spare ignition key with me in winter to avoid that theft scenario when I had to let 'er run unattended!
