I wonder what the clinical medical standards are for a medical professional to diagnose a service member that ii is necessary for that individual to undergo gender reassignment surgery and treatment SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL
I expect that there ae already basic screening processes in place to separate legitimate wannabes from sexual predators.

TSgt Kenneth Ellis - The problem with that argument is that you will need to have a medical treatment plan signed by your doc and approved by your CO, and you will NOT be allowed to cross the line of standards until your gender changes in DEERS, at which point you are held to all standards of the target gender. Sorry to burst your bubble.

They have opened a pandorra's box. PT failures will be frequent because they switched genders.

CW2 Lindsey Muller - It is a hypothesis. People speculate that it won't be a big deal. The sky won't fall. Women have passed Ranger School but I can see the situation where someone getting a sex change from Female to Male will have a higher propensity to fail the Pushup and the 2 mile run. If they were maxing all 3 events already before all the hormones and surgery then they will maintain the edge. I just see those marginal p.t. scorers who go from Female to Male could fail. Time will tell. I base this on a female I knew in basic...about 21 years old who did well on the situp and the run yet she was separated due to her inability to do the minimum pushups after being in Basic and AIT after about 3 months. She was not fat but actually one of the few women who were not overweight in basic. Statistics will affirm or reject my assumption in time.

LTC (Join to see) - I recall the Secretary of Defense saying the US gov. would pay for those soldiers who want the sex change surgery. Heck, the VA won't pay for many treatments so if this is true, we will have a flood of people joining with the expectation of getting a college degree and a gender change too..that is a can of worms when veterans are denied certain benefits or help and some kill themselves because of denied benefits but the transgenders get their wish on the government's dime.
