As a former Medic and a clinician of fifty years, life is both precious and tenuous simultaneously.

Ectopic pregnancy is the implantation of a pregnancy in a site other than the endometrial lining of the uterine cavity—ie, in the fallopian tube, uterine cornua, cervix, ovary, or abdominal or pelvic cavity. Ectopic pregnancies cannot be carried to term and eventually rupture or involute. Ectopic pregnancy is fatal to the fetus, but if treatment occurs before rupture, maternal death is rare. In the US in 2007, the mortality rate due to ectopic pregnancy was 1/100.000 women. Legislators are correct and justified to "fix confusion" over language in their laws. The cases of choosing the life of the mother vs the baby are rare indeed. Republicans are simply trying to protect the innocent lives who cannot speak for themselves from within the womb, while not also placing the mother &/or her doctor in legal peril.
