This is an interesting piece that considers how our warfighting culture makes it hard to stop suicide among our ranks no matter what senior leaders say or do. It's small unit leadership that will beat this enemy.

No warrior wants to look weak to those in charge. The only ones they will share with are those who they immediately work with. It's going to depend on who has their "six" (AF) or is their "battle buddy" However, a commander and first sergeant who are out and about, are willing to respond at any time without any judgmental comments can in fact, make a difference. Two of my troops from my last command are still here for that reason.
