Thanks for posting this. As Americans, we tend to focus on our part of WWII without any real knowledge of the rest of the battles fought in WWII. I find it interesting, but not surprising the Russia would embellish some of their WWII history. During the Cold War, the USSR was known for its disinformation campaigns.

I firmly believe that one of the reasons that the Nazi's lost was because of the Eastern Front. They chewed up a ton of resources and manpower trying to beat the Russians.

Well the Russians did much of the ground work but they were reliant on equipment we supplied to them mostly radios, food, medicine and the Studebaker Trucks they used to great effect towing artillery pieces and most importantly intelligence, we constantly kept Stalin informed on everything because the western allies had the advantage of intelligence gathering.

What myth? That they destroyed 85% of the German Wehrmacht? It's true. 25 million of their citizens and soldiers cry out from beyond the grave.

I guess you did not read the article Diane, they talked about specific events that while legendary are also mostly fictional.

SSG Russkiya - maybe I missed something in Military History or in Command and General Staff College - but I can find no evidence at all that supports your contention that the Russian Military destroyed 85% of the Wehrmacht. However, the Russian NKVD did with malice of forethought liquidate over 21,857 Polish internees and prisoners in the Katyn forest in 1940. Those who died at Katyn included an admiral, two generals, 24 colonels, 79 lieutenant colonels, 258 majors, 654 captains, 17 naval captains, 85 privates, 3,420 non-commissioned officers, and seven chaplains), 200 pilots, government representatives and royalty (a prince, 43 officials), civilians (three landowners, 131 refugees, 20 university professors, 300 physicians; several hundred lawyers, engineers, and teachers; and more than 100 writers and journalists.
