'Outright lying': Former RNC head scoffs at voters' claims about a Trump conviction

Former Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele cast doubt Monday on voters' claims that a Donald Trump conviction could shake their support.

A recent poll found 47 percent of Georgia voters and 46 percent of Michigan voters say that the former president should be disqualified from office if he's convicted in the election subversion cases.

But Steele told MSNBC he's not buying that.

"Oh, it's a lie, that is such a lie, it is such a lie," Steele said.

"You know why it's a lie? Because you watch presidential candidates stand on the stage and say if Donald Trump were a convicted felon standing before us in leg irons and an orange jumpsuit, that I would stand up and vote for him and support him for president. You have Peter Meijer, former member of Congress, voted for impeachment, running for the U.S. Senate in Michigan say, oh, Donald Trump, oh, all about the guy, love him, support him, no problem, even though I supported impeaching him, I think he'll be a better president, an anti-democratic Republican president than the pro-democracy Democratic president."
