Shooting down hobby drones is dangerous business and can do more harm than good. Trying to jam their radio frequencies will not work in all cases because many hobby drones can fly autonomously and will fly their program until their mission is complete or battery power is insufficient to complete their mission. Tracking the aircraft back to the operator is the most reasonable solution. It's kind of like the old saying, "guns don't kill, people do." Shooting down drones that are operating illegally won't stop operators from buying replacements and doing it again. Catching operators and imposing hefty fines and jail time seems like a more viable solution.

Considering folks in a Colorado town passed ordinance allowing legal shooting down of low flying drones out of conspiracy it was federal government spying on them, Ideal of a DoD policy is disconcerting.

I guess it depends on the type of drone. Shooting down hobby drones seems like overkill. ACLU or some other "progressive" or other "Big Brother" group would probably sue the person and their associated organization. I agree with PFC Ryba, better to trace back to operator and make then face the music legally. Commercial or military drones are another matter, however.

If the government would give the following, I would take care of one of the three bases in Colorado Springs:
- pay me as a GS5
- issue me a 12 gauge tactical shot gun with slugs, 00 buck shot, and bird shot
- one case of beer per day
- quad

I would bag my limit everyday and assemble the carcasses in grotesque Silence of the Lambs sculptures and put them on social media to mock other potential offenders.

SPC (Join to see) - Someone who also sees my concern if Post Security is shooting down drones in the cantonment areas of post/base.
