My grandfather operated a crane in Portsmouth Naval shipyard from 1938 until 1968 and then operated the Great Bridge Drawbridge until 1976. I was a navy brat and joined the army at 17. The one thing I adsmire about the US Navy is it holds on to its traditions. I never met a Sailor that was not proud of his ship or his rating. I grew up in a navy neighborhood which none us us went in the navy except a few that were Marines first and got out and went in the Navy. I was told they did not like a Seaman outranking a Marine on a naval vessel.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel They need to keep it if those four Iowa Class Battleships are only mothballed. You never know when and if they will be recommissioned. Only us old Navy types will also remember the massive Nazi floating Crane in Long Beach Ca. It was a prize to the US Navy at the end of WWII, I think it was called "Herman". The largest floating crane in the world. If my memory serves me right, it was sold or dismantled.
