Being a Muslim myself, there is indeed truth to this. However one must consider the barbaric days and refer to the practices during that period. Of course the Billboard was made to serve an agenda, which the same can be done for anything.

True they do refer to practices during that period of time.
But the sad thing is that:
Be headings
Child marriage
Slavery
Rapes
Are unfortunately predominate from one group which also has a terror problem within its religion.
It will be a great day when the Muslim's will be able to purge the bad ideas, teachings and habits of the corrupt within its group.

You're right about intent of billboard. I just read the article and thought it strange that by being vague (about falsehoods on the billboard), it allowed for readers to assume that the billboard might be correct. Thanks.

Is it fair to judge a person by standards which were unknown to him? That were not theirs ? Not in their time and their place? Isn't that akin to being judged by what our ancestors did or by what others of our race did even though they are unrelated to us? Now, if someone wants to live by those cultural standards or practice those cultural mores in our time and our place, we may judge them our my cultural standards and mores. Remember: When in Rome... ?

Like when someone equates current Christians to our Crusader forefathers?

PO1 John Crafton - In his time and in his culture, girls married young and bred children young because childbirth was dangerous for mothers and children. Rape, pillage, and plunder were customary after vanquishing a people. Slavery was commonplace (until mechanical energy - water power, then steam, then modern engines - proved more economical). So yes, these things were common place even in Western civilization. Study history. It was a brutal time until it wasn't and then was again...

PO1 John Crafton - Well, you go right ahead and vilify Mohammed to your heart's content. I study history to understand the context of our lives today, not to judge the people long dead. Is Mohammed an exemplar of the "Perfect Man" for today? Hell no. And if people want to emulate him in their own lands, that's their business so long as I don't have anything to do with them. Sadly, it seems, much of Europe is inviting them to come and despoil their cultures for the sake of cheap labor. I prefer that my nation not. Those who want to emulate Europe in the name of "good intentions" should be reminded where that road leads and I'm going to do all I can to help remind them.

The allegation that Muhammad married a 6 year old child appears to be more urban legend than fact. Specifically, critics allege Muhammad, in his 50's, was betrothed to Aisha who was just six years old and only nine when the marriage was consummated. This analysis was based wihin a passage in the Qur'an attributed to Aisha herself (Sahih Bukhari volume 5, book 58, number 234). Accordingly, many Muslims believe this to be a historically accurate account. Furthermore, many Muslims who accept this account also argue that since the Qur'an states that marriage is void unless entered into by consenting adults, Aisha must have entered puberty early. To add to the confusion, modern Muslim researchers calculated Aisha's age at thirteen and perhaps between seventeen and nineteen at the time of her marriage based on more detailed information available about her sister Asma. Nonetheless, due to the unreliability of birth records in 7th Century Arabia, it is impossible to know with any certainty how old Aisha was.

You're cherry picking data. "Muslim authors who calculate Aisha's age based on the more detailed information available about her sister Asma estimate that she was over thirteen and perhaps between seventeen and nineteen at the time of her marriage." Yeah, I read that on wikipedia, as well. If we are using wiki, as a source, than here: "Spellberg states, "Aisha's age is a major pre-occupation in Ibn Sa'd where her marriage varies between six and seven; nine seems constant as her age at the marriage's consummation." So, I guess the billboard is false because his child-bride wasn't six, but nine. Thanks.

PO1 Don Gulizia - short of you asking an Imam directly - I am not sure what you are asking for

You didn't "ask an Imam" when you provided that info to refute Aisha's age. I asked what was incorrect about the billboard. Why didn't the writer ask an Imam to refute specifics on the billboard?
