Lots of people making comments about his lack of military background. 1. SECDEF does not use an M-16, or wear boots. 2. If GEN Mattis approved him for his Deputy...who the heck am I to whine about him. 3. The media is saying McGurk and others in civil service are all quiting over the Syria decision. NO. Civ Serv retirees will tell you that each year OPM and CPO figure the best day to retire...usually around the first week of JAN which is the last pay check of current year. If you retire in mid or late JAN, you can not take your excess leave into the next year. I almost did that during my second retirement...but in AUG I realized that next DEC or JAN in Maryland would have snow. Snow and Cold are the two 4 letter words I do not like! //Media has screwed up some of these stories based on their lack of brains.

1. He is not first SECDEF to not have uniformed time, but some criticized Ashton Carter during Obama’s time for also not having it either
2. Mattis already submitted formal and official resignation. Trump replacing him early changes his departure from voluntarily leaving to firing
3. Timing may not be about retirement, but circumventing checks and balances. Since Congress is not in session, acting replacement temporarily avoids normal confirmation process

LTC Eugene Chu I'd quibble a bit with point two. If you submit your two week resignation and the company instead immediately lets you go instead, I wouldn't consider that being fired. If it was, there would be a whole lotta unemployment claims associated with that because those people would have been fired without cause.

LTC Eugene Chu I did some research. You are right and I'm wrong. It is considered being fired and af that did happen to you are I we could likely collect unemployment. Interesting. I guess I learned my thing today.

Actually what is usually done in the civilian world if someone gives their 2 weeks and they are going to a competitor or it is suspected they are goin to a competitor they will be walked out that day but will be oaid for the 2 weeks they gave. That way it is not the same thing as being fired in that case.

Think Space Force. No problem with not being a veteran. SECDEFs need different skills depending on the situation. In this instance, Trump decided, as Obama did, it’s time to wind down our propping up our allied.

This info caught my eye Sir. Also, he ticked off McCain on a question if some weapons should be sold to Ukraine. (I do not know why we are trying hard to piss off the Russians.) Anyway, I would like to know who his number one man, or women is and I hope there is no big reason to move him forward two months ahead of time.
From what I read, I am glad he is on our side. I could go for a tactical laser for my weapon platform.
