Thank you my friend SGT (Join to see) for honoring Cleveland Indians' pitcher Herb Score who was hit by a line drive off Gil McDougald which shattered his career as a major league-pitcher..
"He set the record for strikeouts among rookie pitchers with 245, which was also tops in the American League. (The previous rookie mark was set by the Phillies’ Grover Cleveland Alexander in 1911 with 227.) His overall record was 16-10 with a 2.85 ERA, and he was named to the AL All-Star Team by Indians manager Al Lopez. Score was honored as the AL Rookie of the Year by both the Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA) and The Sporting News.
Score followed with a splendid season in 1956 (20-9, 2.53). He was one of three pitchers on Cleveland’s staff, joining Early Wynn (20-9, 2.72) and Bob Lemon (20-14, 3.03), to win 20 games. Score led the league in strikeouts for a second straight year with 263.

LTC Stephen F.. Thank you! I had never heard that. He should be in the Hall of Fame as a broadcaster. He was an excellent pitcher and an even better announcer.

I do too. I was young but an avid follower of the Yankees.
