These suggestions will never fly. No pun intended. They are UGLY! If some of the MARSOC members aren't happy with the original, they ain't gonna like the suggested ones.
The Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command, or MARSOC, just unveiled a new badge to be worn by its elite operators, and some people aren’t too thrilled about it. But, really, who can blame them?
Take a look at this thing: An eagle clutching a knife. Cool! It’s like a tattoo you get when you just get out of basic training, and you’re drunk on cheap vodka, and you don’t have any ideas for tattoos. Full disclosure: I have that tattoo. Also, what is the eagle actually doing with that disproportionately huge knife curiously situated between its feathered legs?

Keith, that author needs to put the crack pipe down and slowly step away. First off, the pin was designed by a MARSOC operator. So the author can go suck eggs. Secondly, when the author puts in the blood and sweat, then perhaps some Raider will give him his opinion. Until then, like I said, suck eggs.

It's a good satire piece.
The issue many Marines will have with the approved breast insignia is one of "Is this necessary?" Not speaking badly of the MARSOC folks, their training regiment, or anything else, but we don't go for a whole lot of "flair" in the USMC. As noted, most of ours comes from other Services (like Basic Parachutist, Dive Bubble, and EOD). Even our wings fall under that ideal.
I'm not saying it doesn't look cool, or that we shouldn't recognize people... but in general the people who will have these will already be easily recognizable because they are wearing other parallel devices (like above). It just seems "redundant."

SGT (Join to see) - Anytime. I'm not sure what the Marines' split will be on this (For/Against). I have no issue with the badge itself, so I fall kind of in the middle.
Of the Recon (force or otherwise) that I knew while in (I'm pre-MARSOC days), most would look at this as just one more thing to maintain. It would be a cool acknowledgement that they accomplished something, but 99% of the time they are surrounded by other guys with the same racks, so it doesn't really mean much.

SGT (Join to see) - Absolutely. Best of intentions. Just seems outside the Spirit of our Uniform Philosophy, which is HIGHLY Subjective. Combined with the low population of the MARSOC Regiment (2700~, of which 1200~ might be operators), it just seems odd.
