The M1917 was a stop gap to fill in shortages of M1903 Springfield 30'06 rifles at the beginning of the First World War. Based on the British P14 it was a sturdy rifle but heavier and less agile that the M1903s. The M1917 bayonet was not compatible with the M1903 but was used on military shoguns ( Trench Guns) through the Viet Nam era although the older shotguns stayed in service and continued to use the M1917 bayonet.

This rifle belonged to my father-in-law, WWII Pacific Army vet and was given to my wife and I when he passed. U.S. Rifle, Caliber .30, Model of 1917, EDDYSTONE Pennsylvania. Haven't tried to shoot it but the bolt action works fine. Came with the bayonet but my wife is still searching for it. ;o)

I have one I picked up on the cheap, it was spoterized. I am looking to finding the pieces I would need to put it back to being at least a rack grade rifle.
