I get the carve out. I don't understand why, but I'll read up on it.
I tried to get an appointment to both the Naval Academy and West Point, just hoping to stick at one. I didn't make it mainly because my grades weren't engineering degree studies worthy. I never wondered if an affirmative action appointment made it in my stead. I just figured the best person got in.
This ruling gives me pause to wonder.

Bottom line regarding the Service Academies is that the United States had submitted an amicus brief that they had an additional factor of "National Security Interests" for the affirmative action and since the military academies weren't parties to the suit the majority restricted the ruling to exclude them.

Good...theros no black, white, Asian, Hispanic etc...there are only soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines...to do otherwise teaches division.
