I remember reading about Father Damian and the lepers of Molokai in junior high!

I had the good fortune to work and travel Hawaii in the mid 90s. There is much I knew before moving there, much more I learned while I was there and still tons more left to be learned.
If you have the opportunity, I recommend you avoid the touristy stuff and do historical things...other than the obvious, Pearl Harbor/Hickam. Visit the Bishop Museum, Iolani Palace (the only Royal Palace in the US), fly over to Molokai. You will garner a whole new view of our 50th state.
I suggest reading Stolen Kingdom: An American Conspiracy by Rich Budnick.
