My Dad and GrandFather have links to the Hiawatha train of the Milwaukee Road Railroad. The Hiawatha train ran from Minneapolis-Saint Paul to Chicago.
The Milwaukee Road came out with a new lighter locomotive that was streamlined and designed for long and high-speed travel up to 100 mph without wearing out the drivetrain.
This railroad beat the competition because these high-speed trains arrived at their destination 3 hours faster than a regular locomotive.
You will see a picture of my Grandfather, Edward. F Conway, as the Chief of Police of the Milwaukee Railroad. He worked for them until his death in November of 1963. My Father worked summers on the section gang with his 2 older brothers fixing rail and railroad ties. My Father was a switchman for The Milwaukee Road from 1950-1951. His National Guard Division, the Viking 47th Infantry Division, mobilized in 1951 and my Father had to go on Active Duty for 15 months. He did not go to Korea but was honorably discharged due to Asthma and suffered from a CBRN school exposure to phosgene and other chemicals that affected him for the rest of his life.
This picture must have been taken between 1935 and 1951. Also, there's a picture of my Dad's Elementary School class next to a Hiawatha train so my guess is my Grandfather set up a field trip with the school to check out the train before it departed to Chicago.

I was happy to find that someone had done a CGI version of this train. Even though I knew of trains I could do 120 or 130 mph, this was like the Dodge Hellcat or the Concorde of steam locomotives way before the Japanese bullet train.
The Milwaukee Road eventually became part of Amtrak.
My father later worked for the Santa Fe Railroad as a special agent and later took his Railroad and security experience to become a Los Angeles County sheriff in 1965. He retired from the sheriff's department from service-connected disability in 1976 and continued to receive benefits until he passed away in July of 2002.

MSgt Robert "Rock" Aldi I think my uncle rode on it I remember him talking about a fancy streamlined train when he traveled to visit relatives in Chicago back in the 50s.
