Thanks for letting us know TSgt Joe C. that on April 1, 1816 Jane Austen responds to a letter from the British Prince Regent suggesting she write a historic romance, saying, “I could not sit down to write a serious romance under any other motive than to save my life.”
Her classic novels Sense and Sensibility, (1811) Pride and Prejudice, (1813) Mansfield Park, (1814) and Emma (1815) have brought modern readers back to the early 19th century in their imagination. Additionally those stories have been transformed into films. My wife loves to watch the BBC movies of Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility especially.

Without question, Jane Austen is my favorite author, TSgt Joe C.. I've read all her works numerous times and have seen all the cinematic and television efforts as well.
I've even read about customs in the time period. This book by Deirdre Le Faye provides "a wealth of details about Jane Austen's life and times, [and] ...brings to life the world of her novels. Austen scholar Deirdre Le Faye first gives an overview of the period, from foreign affairs to social ranks, from fashion to sanitation. She goes on to consider each novel individually."
