So what is the issue, that I used CNN as a source? Don't like that source? Try this one.
Admittedly it has a different perspective.

Even within the gun community there is debate about carrying on an airplane.

If I recall correctly, guns have banned on flights since the 1970s. You can transport your firearm, just not in your carry-on and you have to follow certain protocol.
For the record, I have my CCW. I also support the 2nd Amendment. Even in gun loving Arizona, there are restrictions. Certain establishments prohibit the carrying of firearms. And just like the military, there are rules of engagement. Unless your life or loved ones is in imminent danger, you're not allowed to shoot. I'm not a legal scholar but I don't think "unruly passenger behavior" justifies discharging your firearm. In 40 years of flying there's been only one instance where I wanted to get physical with a passenger. That was about six months ago on a flight from Phoenix to Minneapolis. I'm sure there are scenarios where the discharging your firearm on a plane would be justified but that's for another discussion.

SFC Kyle Paine - No, actually, there is reason to be concerned. In many states, the mere act of trying to pass through a security checkpoint into a terminal is a crime. These people are criminals. Why would anyone expect a criminal to follow the laws and not open fire outside the TSA checkpoints?

These people need to spend years in prison so that the rest of the many irresponsible gun owners in this country get the message.
