I worked Civil Affairs in Korea. There is a long history of hatred of Japan among Koreans. Japan literally raped Korea and China during that war, and has never felt the need to make it right nor were they compelled to do so. Perhaps we should have treated the Japanese exactly like we treated the Germans after the war. Removing the Emperor and all the Imperial authorities and trying them for war crimes may have been a better strategy.
