Wasn't the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions enough that we needed five? We could have plused up the two existing divisions and sliced them into five locations.

We had the 101st, 82d, 17th and 13th Abn. Divs. in Europe in WWII and the 11th in the Pacific.
I'm sure they chose the 11th because of its historical ties to the Pacific.
