Harvard Removes Title for Chelsea Manning Amid CIA Spat

First amendment rights have nothing to do with hiring or choosing fellows... Completely unrelated.

Harvard is free to do as they choose.

Harvard Kennedy School - "Visiting Fellows traditionally meet with student groups; lead discussion groups on topical issues and their experiences in public and political service; and participate in public policy classes with students and Harvard University faculty." And; "Fellows at the Institute of Politics are able to use all of the facilities of Harvard University: athletic facilities, libraries, museums, and other resources. Fellows are eligible to receive membership in the Faculty Club and may audit courses at Harvard College and other schools at the University. The Institute arranges for Fellows to meet the scholars, practitioners and participants of other centers at the University."

I may have only attended a few college classes, and I do have a High School Diploma. And I am very sure that I know the difference between a 'guest speaker' (which by the way - that invitation still stands) and a 'Visiting Fellow.' I have a very difficult time understanding that the Dean of the Harvard Kennedy School could not know or understand the difference.

And this has nothing to do with suppression of 1st Amendment rights, the 'guest speaker' invitation is still tendered. I see nothing in the 1st Amendment that guarantees an honorific or a higher college/university education from a private institution. And I am very sure that Harvard College is a private university, and not a public university.

Once again, an incorrect interpretation of the 1A. The 1A does nothing to guarantee Manning's right to speak at Harvard. It only prevents the GOVERNMENT from directly stopping him. This is a non-issue in terms of the 1A.
