Highly visible uniformed, armed security is only of limited use as a deterrent. Such "security" is easily identified, and will be either avoided or eliminated early on, in an attack on a public venue.
Compare that to an unknown number of "invisible" defenders, indistinguishable from the helpless unarmed victims the mass-murderer wishes to kill with impunity.
Let those homicidal maniacs wonder and worry about those tigers that they cannot see, the armed citizens among the "designated victims" who will refuse to be victims.
