'Grave evil': Pelosi denied Holy Communion by San Francisco archbishop for pushing abortion...

Here is my two cents on this. JFK was in a similar situation but just the reverse. He was facing anti-Catholic and anti-Vatican discrimination because other non-Catholic ministers were spreading rumors that voting for JFK would be voting in the Vatican into the White House. JFK covered his seperation of faith from political action in a perfectly eloquent speech in Houston, TX (on YouTube, you should listen to it if you have time as it is a classic among his speeches). At any rate, his speech satisfied both the Church Hierarchy as well as a large chunk of minsters opposed to his candidacy and really should be used by Pelosi as a blueprint today. However what really got Pelosi in trouble here was her blatant refusal to meet with the archbishop to explain her position......which the archbishop likely would have accepted had she done so in the same manner as JFK did in Houston. Instead she took a very arrogant position and refused to meet with him. At this point his hands are tied and he has to act because he has a believer contradicting the teaching of the Church and refusing to recognize any authority of the Church in matters of faith. This is someone no longer in Communion with the Church or faithful to it very obviously. I understand from what others told me Pelosi is a devout Catholic. If this is true she fully understood where the path of refusing to meet with her clergy would ultimately lead. So I view this as avoidable and self inflicted and who knows why she choose this course of action. Ex-Communication does not mean your kicked out of the Catholic Church it only means you cannot accept the sacrement of Communion from the Church. Ordinary Catholics fall under the same restriction if they fail to go to confession over a prolonged period of time (but it is self administered not ordered). So it is kind of a stigma but it doesn't mean your going to hell. It only means your not currently adhering to all the Church's expections to remain in good standing at the moment (more or less).
