Thanks Maj Marty Hogan for letting us know that March 1 is the anniversary of the birth of Polish composer and virtuoso pianist of the Romantic era Frédéric François Chopin who wrote primarily for the solo piano.
My father loved to listen to Frédéric Chopin and he taught me that the original name of what we call a piano was piano-forte.
The fortepiano [fɔrteˈpjaːno] is an early piano. In principle, the word "fortepiano" can designate any piano dating from the invention of the instrument by Bartolomeo Cristofori. It refers to acoustic, stringed musical instrument in which the strings are struck by hammers.

They were playing the Polanaise Op 53 by Chopin on Warsaw Radio as the Germans were bombing the City.
