Politics should stay out of the church......and the church should stay out of politics. I used to think the church tended to support Republicans for moral reasons (right to life)........but when they come out in support of Donald Trump......a man who has led a completely immoral lifestyle, and openly and proudly so.......then I think the church ceded the moral high ground when it comes to politics. They should refrain from trying to influence the votes of their congregations.......the muck of the political scene is not where they should tread.

Politics is one of the MOST basic human functions. Why should the morality laws f the pulpits be left out? Ever hear the saying " man is a political animal"?

Constitution addresses this, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

Congress has no right to limit what is done or said in a house of religion, as long as it doesn't harm the public good.

SPC Kevin Ford - so perhaps those who pay no federal income tax should not be allowed to engage in politics ? Since when are taxes, freedom of religion and freedom of speech entwined? Oh since Lyndon Johnson, about 60 years ago.

Almost half the people in the USA pay no federal income tax. Taxing religious organization is interfering with their practices. If the Gov't is allowed to tax houses of worship, then they could force their closure for financial reasons. This will lead to Gov't sponsorship if certain religions over others.

Constitution authorizes control over commerce, including taxation. Religious organizations are not businesses. My Roman Catholic church makes no profit and produces no product. The diocese owns the real estate and other capital goods. Any monies collected are reinvested within the parish, diocese, or ministries.

I saw where even some Republican House members were critical and said they will vote against it.
