Farmworkers brace for more time in the shadows after latest effort fails in Congress

Undocumented farmworkers say they are bracing for two more years of "living in the shadows" after lawmakers failed to pass immigration and farm labor laws during the 117th Congress.
One such worker is Maria, an undocumented farmworker in Idaho who asked for her last name to be omitted because of her undocumented status. She has worked for 27 years in onion and potato operations.
"I will have to keep living in the shadows," Maria said. "With protections ... I would be able to do more things that I currently can't — like get a driver's license or a loan."
The farmers who depend on both undocumented workers and those with temporary visas to feed the country are also staring down years more without relief.

The current situation at the border is untenable. We, as a nation must secure our border for the safety, security, and well-being of our nation. We do not now or have we ever allowed unfettered access to our Military bases. You can’t just walk on to any instillation without going through a process, but once you go through the process, you are welcomed in. Our nation should be no different.
I firmly believe in immigration……. LEGAL immigration. My great-grandparents immigrated from Germany and my great, great, great- grandparents from Ireland. Immigration is what built this nation. They did what was required of them, by law, to become citizens. They entered through legal and authorized entry points. Every single one of us that are NOT Native American, immigrated.
There is a legal way to enter the US. You can get Visa’s for work, school, etc. I do not believe that most of the Millions of asylum seekers currently being processed at the border truly meet the criteria for asylum. It is simply the password that is being used as an excuse to enter. This is akin, in most cases but not all, to kicking in a persons door and then asking if you can come in. It is an illegal entry.
I welcome the diversity of different cultures but I welcome it when it is done through the legal established channels. Party Politics aside, we need to come together to address immigration. Amnesty is not it. We did not learn our morals and values as children through amnesty.
