I always have held Rommel in high regard. I believe him to be a man of principles and one of the worlds great commanders.

He was a NAZI before Hitler came to power. It was his Chief of Staff who was part of the plot

SSG Edward Tilton - Hmmmm. I have just one question. How is it possible to be a Nazi without being a party member with or without Hitler in power?

SSG Edward Tilton - please source your comment. Every piece of history regarding Rommel, to include his Autobiography, mentions that he was NOT a Nazi, and one of only a handful of German Officers to NOT be a member of the Party. He was the Father of Mechanized Infantry, a Brilliant and more then capable Commander, and Had the High Command listened to him, both in Algiers and at Normandy, Europe would very likely be speaking German. It was He that pressed eliminating Malta instead of blockading it, it was He that requested fuel for his tanks to push Patton back into the ocean, and it was He that broke the resistance code and told High Command the landing would happen at Normandy.
He also had the respect, loyalty, and admiration of those who served under him, He also had the respect and admiration of his peers, on both sides of the conflict. I daresay only Eisenhower was a better strategist, of all the Generals of that war.
