Hindenburg and Ludendorff were a very effective team, calling their partnership a "...happy marriage." But the long war affected them both very negatively. I believe one of them (Ludendorff?) had lost a son in the war and struggled to finally bury his body. The Allies eventually outlasted the Germans, defeating their desperate final offensives, thanks to the Americans. Also the Allies starved the German homeland with a very effective blockade, running them out of food and raw materials, especially steel. What a grim business.

Well, I for one am glad he was a failed strategist.
