The back side of High Pressure, over the Southern US, advects temperatures northward (generally-speaking) and moisture advecting from the Northern Gulf of Mexico and Western Atlantic and Basin.

Upper-Air features and their relative heights will dictate things such as snow, ice, rain and winds. Some forecast discussions and their relative discussions will give you, an idea of what Forecasters are thinking.
