She committed some serious crimes, was convicted of those crimes, spent seven years in prison for those crimes and had the remainder of her sentence commuted. I don't believe any of that needs to be a factor when it comes to determining the suitability of her being named a visiting fellow at Harvard. What should matter is the insight and expertise she can bring to the field in which she has been asked to speak, her academic qualifications have strangely remained absent from the conversation.
I will say that if she really believes she isn't a visiting fellow because the CIA intervened... she probably isn't used to putting a whole lot of rigor into verifying her assumptions. Public opinion and political backlash are more than enough to account for the change in status... then there is the fact that she is still invited to speak, which means she isn't being silenced by Harvard much less the government.

Yeah just remember, she was an E-4. How many E-4's do you/did you know that had a deep understanding of the military/police/intel state? Good job Harvard proving that you are absolutely a shell of your former self. What socially liberal idea are you going to tilt to next?

There are several LGBTQ military veterans who have served honorably. Two examples are below:
Kristen Beck: Born as Christopher, Beck retired honorably from DEVGRU (SEAL Team Six) as a U.S. Navy Senior Chief. Today, Beck is an analyst with Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA)
Emily Miller: She is an Operation Enduring Freedom veteran and member of Knights Out (LGBTQ alumni of West Point). She later earned an MBA, co-founded a company called Rumi Spice and earned a deal on "Shark Tank".
Harvard could have easily picked one of them instead of convicted leaker Manning....
